Medicare has four parts.

Part A: Hospital insurance for inpatient care, skilled nursing (limited), and hospice.
Part B: Medical insurance for doctor visits, outpatient care, labs, preventive services. Monthly premium applies.
Part C (Medicare Advantage): Private plans that bundle Part A and B (often Part D). Uses plan networks and rules.
Part D: Prescription drug plans (PDPs) purchased separately if you stay on Original Medicare + Medigap.

What Medigap does: Fills certain out-of-pocket costs left by Original Medicare (deductibles, copays, coinsurance), lets you see any doctor who accepts Medicare nationwide.
What Medigap doesn’t do: It doesn’t include Part D drugs, routine dental/vision, or extras like gym memberships (those are often in Advantage plans).
Initial Enrollment: Your Medigap Open Enrollment is the 6 months starting the first day of the month you’re both 65+ and enrolled in Part B—no medical underwriting.

Special Situations: If you move, lose employer coverage, or your plan leaves your area, you may have special options.

Guaranteed-Issue Rights: In certain events (e.g., trial rights after leaving Advantage, plan termination), companies must offer you specific plans without underwriting.
Underwriting Notes: Outside protected windows, Medigap carriers can ask health questions and may decline applications. Timing matters for the smoothest approval.

Effective Dates & Deadlines: Most policies begin the 1st of a month. Coordinate Part B start, any employer coverage end, and Part D to avoid gaps.

We can help: We’ll check your timing and state rules so you don’t miss opportunities.
Start with your medications. Check each plan’s formulary, preferred pharmacies, and mail-order options. Compare premiums, deductibles, and copays—but also your total annual cost. Plans change every year, so review during the Annual Enrollment Period (Oct 15–Dec 7). We’ll run drug list analyses and show side-by-side costs at your pharmacies.
Two Paths, One Goal: Coverage that Fits
Medigap pairs with Original Medicare for broad access and predictable costs; Advantage offers managed care with extras and annual changes. We’ll compare neutrally—your needs decide.
Step 1: Discovery
We clarify doctors, prescriptions, travel, and budget.

Step 2: Options

Step 3: Enrollment
We complete applications and coordination, end-to-end.

Will my rates increase? Rates can change by carrier, state, and age method. We select stable carriers and review annually.

Do I need referrals? No. With Medigap + Original Medicare, see any provider who accepts Medicare.

Can I switch plans later? You may need underwriting outside guaranteed-issue windows. We’ll check your options.

Does Medigap cover travel? Many plans include limited foreign travel emergency; details vary by plan.

What about dental and vision? Not included in Medigap; we can add standalone dental/vision plans.

How do Part B excess charges work? Plan G covers them in most states; Plan N does not—ask us about your state’s rules.
